Color your map!

ZeeMaps now allows you to color and mark different regions of the world.

For example, you can easily create a map coloring all the countries you have visited.

We support coloring of states in Canada and the US, and all the world countries. In the future, we plan to add more states, and further divisions in the US, like zip code boundaries and counties. If you'd like to see particular region added, please send us a note or leave a comment on this blog.

To add a state, use the "Add->Region" menu item above your map. To update a region, click on it to bring up an update dialog. For both these, remember to be logged in as a moderator of the map.

The click on a region can be a bit slow, so please be patient.

Here's a map coloring the states won by Senators Clinton and Obama up to now in the Democratic Party's presidential primaries.

Login issue

Some people are having trouble "Logging" into their maps. This note is to clarify this issue.

We have two sets of passwords for ZeeMaps:

1. Passwords associated with each map.

2. Password associated with your user login.

Correspondingly, there are two ways of entering passwords:

1. Login

2. Sign-In.

If you've assigned a password to your map, use the "Login" link. If you have previously registered with an email address, please use the "Sign-In" link.

If you do not see a "Login" link, but see a "Logout" link, then click on the "Logout" to get the "Login" link.

Please contact us at info@zeesource.net if you are still having trouble.

Add YouTube videos to your map entries

Now adding a YouTube video to your map entry is easy. Simply cut-and-paste the YouTube video ID from the video's URL to your entry, while creating or editing an entry.

The following graphic shows you how to locate the ID for your video.

Here's a sample map with two video entries for you to enjoy:

Linking text to markers on your published ZeeMap

After working on it for a while, we've finally figured out how to allow linkable text in your published ZeeMap page (patent pending).

Here's a sample map showing Disneyland and the
Eiffel tower.

To create the linkable Eifell tower text we added the link:

<a href="http://www.zeemaps.com/item/eiffel_tower" target="zee_map">Eiffel tower</a>

to our blog. For your own map, change the "eiffel_tower" to the name of your marker, replacing blanks with underscores('_').

Important Notes:

1. You have to use the 'target="zee_map"' in your link, otherwise the link will not work.

2. If you have more than one ZeeMap on the page, then the links will not work. So, for this demo to work, please click on the September 07 link on the side-bar and try with only one ZeeMap on the page.
